Plot Summary

London, 1940. As Britain enters the Second World War, Colonel Roy Cronin (Robert Taylor) stands on Waterloo Bridge, lost in memory. A small ivory good-luck charm in his hand takes him back to another war — to 1917, when as a young captain he walked across this same bridge during an air raid and met someone who would change his life forever.

The flashback reveals young Captain Cronin taking shelter during a Zeppelin raid alongside Myra Lester (Vivien Leigh), a beautiful and talented young ballerina with a prestigious London ballet company. Their connection is immediate and electric — two young people caught in the uncertainty of wartime discovering in each other something worth living for.
