Charles Herbert Frend (21 November 1909 – 8 January 1977) was an English film director and editor, closely associated with Ealing Studios. Beginning his career as a film editor, he worked on a number of major British productions during the 1930s, including four films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. His editing of Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. After moving into directing under producer Michael Balcon, Frend became one of Ealing's key directors. His films included Scott of the Antarctic (1948), A Run for Your Money (1949), The Cruel Sea (1953), The Long Arm (1956) and Barnacle Bill (1957). The Cruel Sea was the most successful film at the British box office in 1953, while The Long Arm received a Silver Bear at the 6th Berlin International Film Festival.
