Plot Summary

Jerry Wheeler is a determined and resourceful young woman whose life is shattered when her brother is arrested, tried, and convicted of murder based on circumstantial evidence that, while damning in appearance, fails to tell the true story of what happened on the night of the killing. Convinced of her brother’s innocence, Jerry refuses to accept the verdict and sets out on her own investigation to find the real murderer.

Jerry’s search for the truth takes her into dangerous territory as she begins to uncover evidence that powerful people were involved in the crime and that the rush to convict her brother may have been deliberately orchestrated to protect the guilty parties. Her investigation leads her to discover connections between the murder victim, local criminal enterprises, and supposedly respectable citizens who have much to lose if the truth comes out.

As Jerry gets closer to the truth, she finds an unlikely ally in a man who has his own reasons for wanting to see justice done. Together, they piece together the real sequence of events that led to the murder, gradually building a case that identifies the true killer and explains why an innocent man was allowed to take the blame. But the real criminals are aware of Jerry’s investigation and are willing to take extreme measures to stop her.

The tension reaches its peak as Jerry’s investigation puts her in direct physical danger from the killer, who realizes that exposure means not only prison but the unraveling of a profitable criminal operation. In a dramatic climax, Jerry must confront the murderer and survive long enough for the truth to emerge, in a race against time that will determine her brother’s freedom and her own survival.
