Plot Summary

Hank McHenry and Johnny Marshall work one of the most dangerous jobs in America — they are power company linemen whose daily routine involves climbing tall electrical towers in lethal weather conditions to repair the high-voltage lines that keep the city running. They have been best friends since childhood, closer than brothers, bonded by years of shared danger and absolute mutual trust. Their friendship is the bedrock of both their lives.

Hank is a warm, honest, and deeply sensitive man who hides his vulnerability behind a gruff exterior. He has been physically scarred by a line accident that left him with a permanent limp, and his self-consciousness about his appearance makes him shy and awkward around women. Everything changes when they encounter Faye Duval, a beautiful, cynical, and emotionally damaged nightclub hostess who has been hardened by years of difficult living.
