Plot Summary

The episode opens aboard the Raumkreuzer Orion, where Commander Cliff Allister McLane (Dietmar Schönherr) and his crew are carrying out a routine patrol. The ship’s sensors register something unexpected, and the crew’s attention shifts from routine duties to a potential threat. The tension builds as the Orion’s officers attempt to determine whether what they are detecting is a genuine danger or a false alarm.

At the centre of the crew’s response is Lieutenant Tamara Jagellovsk (Eva Pflug), the security officer assigned to the Orion. Her role is to assess threats and ensure the ship’s mission is not compromised. As the situation develops, her judgement and McLane’s instincts come into conflict, forcing the two to work through their differences under pressure.

The ship’s tactical officer, Mario de Monti (Wolfgang Völz), and the rest of the bridge crew monitor the developing situation. The Orion’s systems are pushed as the crew tries to gather more information about what they are facing. The episode builds its tension through the crew’s attempts to interpret incomplete data and decide on a course of action.

As the episode progresses, the crew’s decisions carry increasing weight. The threat they are dealing with demands both caution and decisive action, and the characters must balance the two. The episode’s structure keeps the focus on the Orion and its crew, with the drama unfolding through their interactions and choices.

The episode moves toward a confrontation that forces the crew to commit to a course of action. The resolution hinges on a question the episode has been building toward throughout: whether the crew’s assessment of the situation is correct, and what the true nature of the threat they face will turn out to be.
