Plot Summary

A young woman from the East has inherited a vast and valuable Texas ranch from a recently deceased relative, and she is travelling west to claim her property and begin a new life. She has no idea that a ruthless gang of swindlers has already been plotting to steal the ranch through a complex scheme involving forged documents, bribed officials, and the elimination of anyone who stands in their way.

Hopalong Cassidy learns of the conspiracy and devises an ingenious plan to protect the young heiress and expose the criminals. In a departure from his usual straightforward approach, Hoppy disguises himself as a cultured and wealthy Eastern gentleman — a tenderfoot who appears to know nothing about the rough ways of the West and seems like the easiest possible mark for the swindlers.

The masquerade is both dangerous and entertaining. Hoppy must maintain his effete Eastern persona convincingly enough to fool the criminals into accepting him as harmless, while secretly gathering evidence of their conspiracy and positioning himself to strike when the moment is right.
