Plot Summary
Geoffrey Radcliffe (Vincent Price), a respected mine owner, has been wrongly convicted of murdering his own brother and sentenced to hang. Evidence was planted by the real killer, and Geoffrey’s appeals have been exhausted. On the eve of his execution, his friend Dr. Frank Griffin β brother of the original invisible man, the late Jack Griffin β visits the prison cell with a desperate gamble: the same invisibility serum that drove Jack Griffin to madness.
Geoffrey takes the serum, vanishes from his cell before the horrified guards’ eyes, and escapes into the fog-shrouded English countryside. Now invisible but hunted by every constable in the county, he faces a race on two dangerous fronts. He must find the real killer β Richard Cobb (Sir Cedric Hardwicke), a scheming business rival who murdered Geoffrey’s brother to seize control of the family coal mines β before Inspector Sampson (Cecil Kellaway) and Scotland Yard recapture him.
But there is an even more terrifying adversary: the serum itself. As the drug courses through his invisible body, Geoffrey feels the same creeping madness that destroyed the original invisible man. His thoughts darken, his temper grows violent, and he struggles to maintain his sanity and humanity. His devoted fiancΓ©e Helen (Nan Grey) and Dr. Griffin work desperately to develop a cure, but the madness encroaches steadily. The climax unfolds in the dark coal mines where Cobb has retreated, and Geoffrey must confront the killer before the serum transforms him into the monster his prosecutors always claimed he was.
