Plot Summary

Mary Lennox, a spoiled, sickly, and thoroughly disagreeable young girl, is sent from India to live with her reclusive uncle Archibald Craven at Misselthwaite Manor, a vast and gloomy Yorkshire estate, after the deaths of her parents. As Mary begins to tend the secret garden, bringing it back to life through hard work and growing knowledge, the garden begins to transform her as well.
