Plot Summary

Four American oil company employees — boss and pilot Mike Monahan (Rod Cameron), radio operator Billy Larsen (Tab Hunter), detection expert Syd Barlow (John Dehner), and mechanic Jim Evans (Richard Erdman) — are surveying the Sahara Desert from the air when a sandstorm forces them to crash-land. With little water, a broken radio, and sand-clogged engines, their situation appears hopeless.

Monahan spots an antenna protruding from the sand. Digging down, the men uncover a German Afrika Korps tank from World War II, complete with two mummified crewmen. A treacherous guide named Zagora (Anthony Caruso) leads them into an ambush. After a harrowing siege, Larsen converts the tank’s receiver into a transmitter and sends a mayday.
