Plot Summary

Deep in the jungle of a remote tropical island, Dr. Roland Gerard (Tom Conway) has abandoned conventional science to pursue a radical and terrifying experiment — the fusion of modern scientific knowledge with the ancient voodoo practices of the local indigenous people. Working alongside a tribal voodoo priest, Gerard has discovered a method to transform human subjects into monstrous creatures of tremendous power and near-indestructibility, though his experiments have thus far produced imperfect results that he cannot fully control.

Into this dangerous situation arrives Marilyn Blanchard (Marla English), a beautiful, ambitious, and completely amoral woman who has travelled to the island with her companions Rick Brady (Lance Fuller) and Ted Donavin. Marilyn has heard rumours of Gerard’s experiments and sees in them an opportunity for personal power beyond anything conventional means could provide. She manipulates her way into Gerard’s confidence, promising to be the willing human subject he needs to perfect his transformation process.

Gerard is initially suspicious of Marilyn’s motives but cannot resist the opportunity to attempt his experiment with a willing and psychologically strong subject. The voodoo ceremonies begin — elaborate rituals combining drums, chanting, and ancient invocations with Gerard’s scientific apparatus — and Marilyn undergoes a shocking transformation into a powerful creature that retains her calculating intelligence while gaining superhuman strength and near-invulnerability.

But the transformation has consequences that neither Gerard nor Marilyn anticipated. The creature’s power proves difficult to direct, and the intelligence that Marilyn retained makes it far more dangerous than any of Gerard’s previous subjects. As the situation spirals out of control, Rick and the other expedition members must find a way to stop the creature before Marilyn’s ruthless ambition, now amplified by monstrous power, destroys them all.
