Plot Summary

Baron Wolf von Frankenstein is a brilliant, ambitious, and thoroughly modern scientist who has spent his entire life in England, far from the cursed village where his father created the Monster that terrorized the countryside. When he inherits his father’s vast estate, he returns to Frankenstein with his wife and young son, determined to reclaim his ancestral home and redeem the family name through legitimate scientific achievement.

The village greets him with undisguised hostility and fear. The townspeople remember the horrors unleashed by his father’s experiments, and they regard the return of a Frankenstein with superstitious dread. Wolf is dismissive of their fears, viewing them as ignorant peasants clinging to medieval superstitions — until he discovers the truth lurking in the ruins of his father’s laboratory.

There he encounters Ygor, a terrifying figure with a broken neck from a botched hanging who has been living in the ruins and secretly caring for the Monster, who lies in a coma-like state. Ygor, cunning and manipulative despite his grotesque appearance, recognizes that Wolf possesses the scientific knowledge to revive the creature, and he begins a subtle and relentless campaign to seduce the young baron into continuing his father’s work.

Wolf’s scientific curiosity gradually overwhelms his moral reservations. He becomes obsessed with the challenge of restoring the Monster to life, viewing it as the ultimate scientific achievement that will prove his genius and vindicate his family’s legacy. But as his experiments progress, he realizes too late that Ygor has been using the revived Monster as an instrument of personal vengeance, systematically murdering the jurors who sentenced Ygor to the gallows. Trapped between his own ambition, Ygor’s murderous schemes, and the relentless suspicion of Police Inspector Krogh — who lost his arm to the Monster as a child — Wolf faces a desperate reckoning with his father’s terrible legacy.
