Plot Summary

The village of Frankenstein has never recovered from the horrors unleashed by the creation of the Monster. The villagers live in perpetual fear and superstitious dread, blaming their every misfortune on the cursed legacy of the Frankenstein family. In a desperate attempt to finally rid themselves of the horror, they storm Castle Frankenstein and dynamite its crumbling towers, believing they have destroyed the Monster and his twisted companion Ygor once and for all.

But both have survived. Ygor, the broken-necked shepherd who has become the Monster’s only true friend and protector, leads his shambling companion away from the ruins in search of help. He knows that only a Frankenstein possesses the scientific knowledge to restore the Monster to full strength, and he has learned that Ludwig Frankenstein — the second son of the original creator — has established a prosperous medical practice in the distant town of Vasaria.

Ludwig Frankenstein is a brilliant and respected physician who has spent his entire career trying to escape his father’s terrible legacy. When Ygor arrives with the Monster, Ludwig is horrified but also scientifically fascinated. He discovers that the Monster’s criminal behavior stems from the damaged brain implanted by his father, and he conceives a plan to replace it with the brain of a decent, rational person — effectively curing the Monster and redeeming the Frankenstein name.
