Plot Summary

Scotty Mason is a tough and experienced rancher who has become obsessed with capturing Dorado, a magnificent wild stallion that roams the remote canyons and mesas of the Mexican borderlands. The stallion — known to locals as Thunderhoof for the terror he strikes in other horses — has eluded every attempt at capture, becoming a living legend among the ranchers and cowboys of the region. Scotty is determined to be the man who finally tames this wild king of the desert.

Scotty organizes an expedition into the dangerous wilderness with his young and beautiful wife Margarita, whose knowledge of the Mexican terrain and its people makes her invaluable to the enterprise. The journey takes them deep into isolated and hostile country, far from civilization and help, where the dangers include treacherous terrain, extreme heat, lack of water, and the unpredictable fury of the wild stallion itself.

The expedition is complicated by the arrival of Red, a young and handsome former cowboy who joins the party. Red has a history with Scotty — and he has eyes for Margarita. Tensions between the three travelers escalate as the isolation and danger of the wilderness strip away the thin veneer of civilization and expose the raw emotions of jealousy, desire, and possessiveness that simmer beneath the surface.

As the hunt for Thunderhoof brings them deeper into the wilderness, the human conflicts become as dangerous as any natural threat. Red’s attempts to win Margarita’s affections, Scotty’s jealous rage, and Margarita’s conflicted loyalties create a volatile situation that threatens to erupt in violence. The climax delivers a dramatic confrontation that interweaves the wild stallion’s fight for freedom with the human characters’ struggle for survival, love, and redemption.
