Plot Summary

Molly J. Truesdale is a cheerful and independent New York City working girl who is thoroughly bored with the three dull men who are competing for her affections back home. Looking for adventure and a change of scenery, Molly joins a bus tour heading west through the spectacular American landscape, hoping that the beauty and excitement of the frontier will provide the spark her life has been missing.

At a rodeo stop in Oregon, Molly’s life changes dramatically when Duke Hudkins, a big, handsome, and charmingly inarticulate rodeo cowboy, literally falls on top of her during a wild bronc-busting act. The physical collision sparks an immediate romantic connection between the sophisticated city girl and the rough-hewn cowboy, despite the fact that they have almost nothing in common and come from worlds that could not be more different.

Molly misses her tour bus and ends up stranded in the small Western town, forced to spend time with Duke, who is simultaneously attracted to her and terrified of commitment. Their developing romance is hilariously complicated by Duke’s stubborn independence, Molly’s urban sensibilities, the interference of Duke’s meddling pal Waco, and the continued attentions of the three persistent suitors who have followed Molly from New York.

The comedy builds as Molly tries to tame the wild cowboy while Duke tries to figure out if he can give up his freedom for love. Their misadventures across the Western landscape — from rodeo arenas to ranch houses to open prairie campfires under the stars — test their patience, their pride, and ultimately their feelings for each other, leading to a heartwarming resolution that proves some chances are worth taking.
