Laurel & Hardy in Color

Stan Laurel (1890–1965), born in Ulverston, England, and Oliver Hardy (1892–1957), from Harlem, Georgia, were one of the best-loved comedy double acts of Hollywood's studio era. Both had worked in films for years before producer Hal Roach paired them in 1927. Thin, fretful Stan and pompous, exasperated Ollie went on to appear together in more than a hundred films.

This page collects the 24 Laurel and Hardy films in our catalog (20 features and 4 shorts, 1930–1951), grouped by the three stages of their career. After them come 3 films with a guest appearance by the pair and 4 that one of them made without the other: 31 titles in all.

Why Laurel and Hardy in color?

Every film the duo made together was shot in black and white. Hal Roach Studios backed some of the first computer colorization work in the 1980s, and Laurel and Hardy comedies were among the earliest films colorized for television and home video. Our versions are new colorizations, made with AI-assisted image processing. Each film page plays a free color preview, so you can judge the result before buying. Every film is a one-time purchase of €15, delivered as a DRM-free download.

The Hal Roach years (1927–1940)

The partnership was formed at Hal Roach Studios in Culver City. The pair moved from silent shorts to talkies in 1929, won an Academy Award for The Music Box, and from Pardon Us (1931) onward made more and more features. Their silent films are not in our catalog; the films here start in the early sound era.
