Plot Summary
A commercial airliner crashes high on a remote, snow-covered mountain peak, killing most of those aboard. Among the handful of survivors are a tough, resourceful outdoorsman named Jesse Hill (Rory Calhoun), a beautiful nurse named Sheryl Collins (Julie Adams) who was among the passengers, a badly injured pilot, and several other passengers in various states of shock and physical distress. Their situation is desperate: they are stranded thousands of feet above the treeline, exposed to freezing temperatures, howling winds, and treacherous terrain, with no way to signal for help and dwindling supplies.
But the mountain holds a dangerous secret. Also aboard the plane was a fortune in cash — and among the survivors is a man who will do anything to claim that money for himself. As the group struggles to survive while awaiting rescue, the presence of the money begins to corrode the fragile bonds of cooperation that are keeping them alive. Trust dissolves, alliances shift, and the desperate struggle for survival becomes contaminated by jealousy, suspicion, and murderous greed.
Jesse emerges as the natural leader, using his wilderness skills and physical toughness to organise search parties, ration supplies, and attempt to find a way down the mountain. But the would-be thief grows increasingly dangerous and reckless, willing to sabotage rescue efforts and endanger other survivors to secure the money for himself. Sheryl must use her medical training and quiet courage to hold the group together while the mounting tension between competing factions threatens to destroy them all before the mountain ever could. The film builds to a desperate, suspenseful climax as the survivors must choose between cooperation and self-interest with their very lives hanging in the balance.

Historical Significance
Released in 1955, The Looters belongs to the popular 1950s cycle of survival adventure films that explored human nature under extreme stress. Through colorization, this gripping vintage survival thriller is preserved for modern audiences.
